The Reno Linux Users Group (RLUG) is a volunteer-run community for Linux and open source enthusiasts in the Reno / Tahoe area. We exist to help people learn, share what they know, and build local connections around free and open source software.

A little history

RLUG has been around, in one form or another, for a long time. Over the years members met at spots around town, argued about distros, helped each other through migrations and mysteries, and kept a lively mailing list going. Like a lot of user groups, it eventually wound down — meetings tapered off, the organizers moved on, and the old rlug.org domain was let go. For a while, the mailing list was the only sign the group had ever existed.

The revival

We think Reno deserves an active Linux community again. The local tech scene has grown, there are more open source users here than ever, and there’s no good reason a city this size shouldn’t have a place for them to gather. So we’re restarting RLUG from scratch — new site, new meetings, same spirit.

Our goals are simple:

  • Meet regularly and keep it welcoming to newcomers.
  • Share knowledge through talks, demos, and good old-fashioned troubleshooting.
  • Stay independent and open — free to attend, community-driven, and vendor-neutral.

Sponsors

Running a user group takes a little help. RLUG’s revival is backed by sponsors who believe in a healthy local open source community.
